Back when radio was more AM/FM than digital and online streaming, back when DJs sat at analog radio desks, you would often find what was called a patchboard next to them. Not every desk had them, and most presenters didn't notice if they did. Yet as they concentrated on the faders in front of them, they weren't really stretching that desk. They'd be using one microphone, a couple of record turntables, and a cartridge rack descended from the eight-track, with jingles and ads on very short loops.
